John Bayliss spent twenty years as a mate and then a captain out of Oregon Inlet before opening his own yard in Wanchese in April 2002. Around a hundred local craftsmen build there, every hull to its owner’s specification — the yard’s own claim is that no two Bayliss boats have ever been the same.
