Dick Bertram saw C. Raymond Hunt’s deep-V hull in 1958 and founded his company on it in 1960. The prototype, Moppie, won that year’s Miami–Nassau race in weather that stopped most of the fleet — which is the moment the offshore sportfisherman as we know it starts.
